Wanda Marie Lovejoy of Pineville, WV passed away on Sunday, February 8, 2026, her 84th
birthday.
Wanda was born in Granite Falls, NC on February 8, 1942 to Lois McGee Ellis and JC Ellis
Sr. She loved caring for and spending time with her family, especially her husband of almost
62 years, Carson, and their three children, Lynne, Jeffrey, and Jennifer.
Wanda was sweet-natured, loving, and very kind. She was a hard worker, and she met each
day with a sense of humor, a sassy personality, and a sharp wit. She was never afraid to tell
it like it was, and her legendary eye rolls were quickly followed by a mischievous smile, an
ornery wink, and a warm laugh. She liked to read harlequin books, grow gardens, and fill her
home with pictures and plants. She would often write her children letters to share news,
stories, and pictures of family members or day-to-day musings. Thrifty and resourceful by
nature, she enjoyed perusing yard sales and flea markets, mending and sewing, and
cooking with ingredients from her garden, the woods, or nearby waters. Wanda was an
inventive cook, and she could fry potatoes and catfish, bake biscuits with homemade
gravy, and make sweets (like her famous peanut butter and no-bake cookies, cakes, and
fudge) better than anyone you’ve ever met. Her teachings and recipes continue to enrich
her family’s lives and kitchens.
Wanda also loved her grandchildren, and she encouraged them to be imaginative and
adventurous. She would sprinkle cinnamon sugar on top of their buttered toast, help them
build blanket forts (often under coffee tables or overtop heating vents), and send them into
the woods, under porches, or down to the creek to play and explore. She taught them how
to find creativity and magic in everyday actions and outdoor places, and they will surely
think of her each time a lightening bug glows, a roly poly curls, a helicopter seed flies, or a
honeysuckle blossom blooms.
She was preceded in death by her parents Lois and JC Ellis Sr; her husband Curtis Carson
Lovejoy, daughter Lynne Adkins, and son Jeffrey “Beau” Lovejoy; her sister Louise Blevins
and brothers Roger McGee, Larry Ellis, and JC Ellis Jr; her granddaughter Jessica Adkins;
and her great-granddaughter Brooklyn and great-grandson Karson.
Wanda will be missed deeply by her daughter Jennifer Sizemore and husband Robert; son-
in-law Eddie Adkins; sisters Susie Woods, Cathie Franklin, and Brenda Hardt; brothers
Wayne Ellis and Bobby Ellis; grandchildren Jamie (Tracy), Josh, Jaclyn, Julie (Luke), Curtis

Mason, Finn, Zain, Zander, Keegan, Kaylee, Kinsley, and Karleigh; and her great-great-
