Wanda Lee Cooper, 81, of Pineville, WV passed away on Sunday, October 17, 2021 at Bowers Hospice House in Beckley, WV following a sudden illness.
Born February 27, 1940 in Bud, WV, she was the daughter of the late Lawrence Owen and Lakie Lusk Belcher. She grew up in Bud, WV and was a 1957 graduate of Herndon High School.
After graduation, she moved to Washington, D.C. and began her career as a legal secretary for Mrs. Helen Neace, Esquire of the firm Woodsen, Pettisol & Garner.
She returned to WV, married and started her family while continuing to work as a legal secretary for Justice of the Peace Grant Taylor and Attorney Jimmy Lyons.
She then worked for National Mines in Personnel. She followed as a legal secretary for Attorney Richard Rundle, and finally retired after working for England Enviromental as a receptionist and payroll clerk.
She was a member of the United Methodist Church in Pineville. In her leisure, Wanda enjoyed attending local high school sporting events, Marshall University sports, and maintaining contact with her family and many friends through Facebook. Wanda was extraordinarily proud of her three grandsons and loved to follow and celebrate their numerous sporting and extracurricular activities.
In addition to her parents and in-laws, she was preceded in death by her sister-in-law, Iris Belcher.
Those left to cherish her memory include her loving husband, Larry Cooper of Pineville; two daughters, Stephanie Smith and her husband John of Lovettsville, VA, Kelly Hanson and her husband Glen of Charles Town, WV; three grandsons (her pride and joy), Chase Smith of Odenton, MD, Cooper Hanson of South Euclid, OH, and Benjamin Hanson of Charles Town, WV; her only sibling, brother Eugene (Gene) Belcher of Bud, WV, several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Services will be 12:00 p.m., Saturday October 23, 2021 at United Methodist Church in Pineville, WV (Cedar Ave. & Bank Street) with Pastor Dan Lowther officiating. Burial will immediately follow at Roselawn Memorial Gardens, Princeton, WV.
Family visitation will be from 10:00 - 11:00 a.m. Friends may call one hour prior to services from 11:00 - 12:00 at the church.
Pallbearers include : Chase Smith, Cooper Hanson, Benjamin Hanson, Sam Stump, David Hicks, Shawn Halsey, Shelby Akers and Billy Dalton. Honorary pallbearers include: Dink Stump, Allen Stiltner and Tracy Goodwin.
