Mrs. Verlie Puckett, age 81, of Oceana, was called home to be with the Lord on Sunday morning, November 16, 2025, following a long illness. She was born July 28, 1944, in Clay County, Kentucky. She was the daughter of the late Bert and Ada Jones Allen.
A wonderful mother and homemaker, Verlie loved to cook and kept an immaculate home. Her love for crafting and handy work is evident in the many keepsake Christmas ornaments she made through the years for her grandchildren. As the family matriarch, she was known for her spunk, strong values, and Christian faith. She was the heart of the home and family. She raised five children alongside her soulmate - her husband, Terry. They were married for thirty-one years. Her family was her greatest pleasure and most precious possession.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Henry Terry Puckett, a sister, Katherine (Allen) Abner, and brothers Lillard Allen, Lawrence Allen, Denver Allen, and Larry Douglas Allen.
Those left to cherish her memory are- son Keith Benge and wife, Paula of Powhatan, VA, daughter Rita Griffith and husband, Sidney of Richmond, VA, son Ladd Jasper III of Oceana, son David Puckett and wife, Lana of Bradenton, FL., son Patrick Puckett and wife, Jackie of Daphne AL. Two sisters- Mrs. Ruby White and husband Eddie, of London, Ky, and Ms. Betty Day of London, Ky, and one brother Clayton Allen and wife Carolyn, of London, Ky.
She is survived by her loving grandchildren, Alyssa Jasper, Ryan Benge, Addison Benge, Amanda Michelle (Benge) Dimasso and her husband Jay Dimasso, Peyton Griffith, Houston Griffith and wife Ashley, Danielle Wilson, Jessica Puckett, David Puckett, Jr., Emma Faith Puckett, Alexandria Van Houten-Gurnee, and five great grandchildren. She is also survived by a loving family member, Ms. Tammie Cimino, family friend Josh Barr, and a host nieces and nephews.
The family sends a heartfelt thank you to the care team of Dr. Suresh Thomas of Beckley, WV, and the staff at Raleigh General Hospital CCU.
Funeral service will be held on Saturday, November 22, 2025, at 12:00pm at Evans-Calfee Funeral Home Chapel, Oceana, WV. Friends may gather with the family one hour prior to the service.
