Stella L. Thomas, 81, left this world peacefully, following an extended illness, on her birthday, Tuesday, July 23, 2024. Surrounded by her loving family, she entered Heaven’s gates at her residence. Stella is now with her Heavenly Father and is happily reunited with her husband Jimmy, whom she missed for the past twenty-eight years and eleven months.
Born in Pike County Kentucky, she was the daughter of the late Millard and Edna Adkins.
Saved on April 1, 1972, Stella attended the Herndon Free Will Baptist Church until her health prevented her from doing so, earlier this year.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, Kenneth Adkins, and her sister, Alice Kennedy.
She was the beloved mother of Jimmy Sammons and wife Darlene of Welch, Ellie Shrewsbury and husband David of Covel, Tina Lester and husband Conley of Covel, and Dave Thomas and wife Jeannie of Princeton; ten grandchildren, Jessica Hodges and husband Joey, April Miller and husband Evan, Brittany Ferrall and husband James, Katie Sparks and husband George, Brian Shrewsbury, Andrea Evans and husband Nicholas, Rebecca Thomas and husband Joshua, Lanisha Lester, Charlie Thomas, and Stephen Lester; nine great-grandchildren with another due in October (another awaiting her arrival in Heaven); one great-great grandchild and another due in December. Also left to cherish her memory are two sisters-in-law, several nieces and nephews; and her church family.
The family would like to express their sincere appreciation to the nursing staff of Hospice of Southern West Virginia for their support during this difficult time.
Lastly, since one of Stella’s favorite colors was red, if you choose, please wear red in remembrance.
She Is Not Gone
Ease your grief, she is not gone, for in your heart she lingers on.
Her smile, her laugh, her special way, will comfort you from day to day.
You’ll feel her presence in the breeze, that dances gently through the trees.
And it’s her face that you shall see when you’re in need of company.
At any time, you can recall, the love you shared, you saved it all.
And in time, more than anything, you’ll find peace in the remembering.
