On February 18, 2021, Shelia Ann Hudgins Akers, 59, of Pineville, WV took her last breath on Earth and opened her eyes in the place that she called home. She fought a long journey with her Lord and Savior holding her hand during her lung transplant and AML leukemia journey.
Shelia was born on July 27, 1961 in Baltimore, MD to parents Rev. E. M. Hudgins and Priscilla Anderson Hudgins. Shelia graduated from WV Institute of Technology with a Bachelor’s degree in Accounting and Associate of Business Administration. She last worked at WV DHHR as Accounting Director.
Those predeceased Shelia include father, Rev. E. M. Hudgins; brother, Rev. Daniel Hudgins; stepdaughter, Tina Cook; brother-in-laws, Jackie Akers and Jerry Compton.
Those left to cherish memories include mother, Priscilla Hudgins; husband, love of her life, and soulmate of 25 years, Charles Akers, Sr.; Daughters, Morgan Akers & McKinlea Akers of Pineville, WV; son, Charles “Chuck” Akers, Jr. & daughter-in-law, Ronya Akers of Oceana, WV; sister, Carolyn Adams & brother-in-law, William Adams of Cary, NC; sister, Sheri Hudgins of Beckley, WV; sister-in-laws, Sandra Compton of NC and Joan Akers of NC.
Special nieces and nephews include Jeremy Adams, Kara Adams, Melissa Clay, Chris Clay, Alan Hudgins, and Lindsay Hudgins.
Shelia leaves behind 6 grandchildren: Megan & Dustin Crutchfield, Mollee Akers, Addi Akers, Noah Akers, and Brianna Cook; and 3 great-grandchildren: Eliza, Edyn, and Kylar.
Special thanks to those that gave such wonderful, personal medical treatment from the Johns Hopkins Hospital especially to Drs. Alexander Ambinder & Pali Shah and their oncology & transplant pulmonology teams respectively. Shelia also leaves behind “her person”, lung transplant coordinator, Lindsay Fessler Barker.
