Sara Jo Winfrey

Sara Jo Winfrey, 57, of Mullens, departed this life December 13, 2024.  She was born on July 3, 1967, a daughter of the late Lewis and Martha McCormick. 

Sara spent much of her life nurturing young minds as a teacher, retiring after many years of dedicated service. Even after retirement, her love for teaching remained strong, and she continued to inspire students as a substitute teacher. Her passion for helping children grow and learn was unwavering, and she cherished watching her students develop into capable and confident individuals.

Outside of her career, Sara was a proud Nana of her grandsons & enjoyed their company deeply. Sara also had a deep love for her pets, and she found great joy in their companionship. A lover of reading and the beach, she often spent her free time with a good book or enjoying the calming waves of the ocean. 

Sara will be remembered for her warm heart, her patience, and her nurturing spirit. She was a dedicated teacher, a loyal friend, and a loving family member. Her legacy of kindness and care will live on in the many lives she touched.

Left to cherish her memory is her loving husband of 35 years, James Winfrey. Two children; Kayla Lovejoy and husband Sam, and Adam Winfrey and his wife Ashley. Three grandchildren; Finn Lovejoy, Axyl Lafferty, and Slade Winfrey. Two sisters; Nancy Kay Beverly and husband Terry, and Dottie Estep and husband Joe.  Two brothers; Travis McCormick and wife Malena, and Bobby McCormick. And a host of nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends.
