Robert Wayne Goode

Robert “Wayne” Goode, 87, of Rockview, WV passed away peacefully Tuesday, September 12,
2023 with his children by his side.
Born February 8, 1936 to Virgil and Vena Vance Goode of Pineville, WV. Wayne graduated from
Pineville High School in 1955. He played football and basketball alongside his brother Fred all
four years of high school. He met and married his high school sweetheart, Karen Hughes, July
9, 1960. Wayne worked 33 years for CNG Transmission Corporation retiring February 1, 1991.
Wayne was an avid sports fan, always supporting local youth and high school teams. He
managed, coached and mentored kids for Pineville Little League and Senior League Baseball
teams as well as his own sons, in the 70’s and 80’s. He was fondly remembered as Coach
Goode who loved his team as his own children. Wayne enjoyed watching all local high school
boys and girls teams, as well as middle school. He rarely missed a game enjoying generations
of Pineville and Wyoming East sporting events..
Wayne enjoyed hunting, fishing and 4 -wheeling in the mountains. He was a great story teller,
entertaining his family and friends with his wisdom and tales of his youth. His memories of
childhood were very happy ones. He never met a stranger and enjoyed life to the fullest. He had
a big personality that was full of humor and compassion. He loved his family, friends and his
community.
Wayne was preceded in death by his parents, Virgil and Vena Goode, the love of his life Karen,
his brother Fred Goode, and a sister Louise Baugess.
He is survived by his loving children, Susan Powell (Randy) of Wake Forest, NC, Debby Clay
(Ray) of Saulsville, WV, Greg Goode (Heather) of Wake Forest, NC, and Wesley Goode
(Sandra) of Wake Forest, NC. His oldest brother, Joe Goode of Pineville and a sister Francis
Byrd of Pineville WV.
His legacy will be cherished and remembered by his grandchildren whom he loved very much,
Ashley Higgins (Jon), Andrew Powell, Kamden Powell, Samantha Clay, Savannah Hall (Logan),
Senetha Thornton (Derick), Madison Goode, Evan Goode, Kathryn Goode and Wyatt Goode.
His great grandchildren, Lily and Alexander Higgins, Sydney, Gage and Jake Powell, Sailor and
Sage Hall, Deacon and Roman Thornton.
