Patrick Oran McKinney

Patrick Oran McKinney, 70, of Keyrock, passed away Friday, March 19, 2021. Born April 16, 1950 at his home in Mullens, he was the son of the late Oran Winton and Mildred Marie Laverty McKinney.

Pat graduated from Pineville High School in 1968 and Morris Harvey College in December 1971. While in college he enjoyed singing in the choir.  During his career he was an insurance adjuster, riverboat bargeman, industrial electrician, UMWA pension administrator, school teacher at Pineville High School and  at Pineville Middle School. He retired in 2010. Pat loved living and working on his farm in Keyrock with his horses, goats, chickens, cats, bees and a donkey.  He and his wife, Laura, own Rockcastle Newfoundlands, breeding a rare breed of dog for the past twenty years.  He was an avid coin collector, puzzle solver, gardener, carpenter, guitarist, singer and songwriter.  Pat published his album "Old Flame" in 2015.  He also assisted with the production of the locally filmed movie "Hollow Creek".  

Pat was preceded in death by his father-in-law, Jack Lambert.

Those left to cherish his memory are his wife, Laura, his son Cameron Scott McKinney and his wife Jessica Breedlove-McKinney of Alum Creek;  grandchildren, Jordan Joudry and her husband, Corey of Iqaluit, Canada, Ian Scott McKinney and Sarah Rylee McKinney; brothers, Robert McKinney of Pineville and Daniel McKinney and his wife Marcia  of Key Rock; his brother-in-law Jack Lambert, Jr.; nieces and nephews, Sarah Robinson and her husband, Adam, Carmen  McKinney and her wife Kara McCoy, Morgan McKinney and her husband, Patrick Corcoran and Stuart McKinney; great nieces and nephews, Greta Wistuk, Arrie McKinney and Solomon Oran Corcoran. In keeping with his wishes Pat will be cremated and a family service held at a later date.
