Minnie Bowyer Obituary

Mrs. Minnie Susan Linton Bowyer, 97, of Pineville, departed this earth on July 25, 2020. She was born on November 14, 1922, in Dorr, WV, and was the last member of the late Asa and Ethel Tomlinson Linton family. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Bowyer was preceded in death by her husband of 68 years, Marvin Bowyer; her grandson, Lloyd Bowyer; and three daughters-in-law: Catherine Sarver Bowyer, Monica Brown Bowyer, and Pam Adams Bowyer. She was also preceded by her sisters, Ruth Linton, Edith “Dutch” McClung, Grace Wickline, and Sibyl Ball and brothers, Robert and Baby Linton. Mrs. Bowyer was valedictorian of the Union High School class of 1940, where she was also a member of the school’s first girls basketball team. She cherished regular reunions with her classmates and attended every one they had. She married the love of her life on November 20, 1943 and set up housekeeping in Union, later moving to Mabscott and ultimately settling in Pineville in 1952. Mrs. Bowyer was a dedicated and active member of the Pineville Presbyterian Church and a 50-year member of the Order of the Eastern Star. Mrs. Bowyer will be remembered fondly by her three sons, Gary Bowyer and his wife, Penny, of Bessemer City, NC; Grady Bowyer and his wife, Sharon, of St. Albans, WV; and David Bowyer and his wife, Belinda, of Ripley, WV; 11 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and 8 great-greatgrandchildren. The family would like to send special thanks to the staff of Meadowbrook Acres Nursing Center in Charleston, WV and HospiceCare of WV, whose warmth and compassion have given us the strength for this end-of-life journey.  Graveside rites will be Thursday July 29, 2020 at 1pm in the Green Hill Cemetery in Union to follow. There will be a memorial service in Pineville at a later date, at which time the family will receive friends. Arrangements have been entrusted to Calfee Funeral Home of Pineville, WV and Groves-Mann Funeral Home in Union, WV.
