Obituary

Michael Eugene Growe Sr., 65, of Pineville went home to be with the Lord on February 10th, 2022.

 

He was born in Pineville on October 23rd, 1956 and was the son of the late Jake Baxter Growe Jr. and Juanita Mae Burchette.

 

Mike was an attendant of Oceana First Baptist. He loved watching Tree House Masters, Gold Rush, Moonshiners and his beloved WVU Mountaineers. He enjoyed spending time on the golf course, spending time with his kids, and being with his grandson.

 

Mike was a retired coal miner from US Steel where he spent 30 plus years. He enjoyed being with his animals, camping, fishing, and hunting with his son.

 

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his uncles Jim “Bud” Burchette, Treely “Tom” Burchette, and Edward “Chub” Lee Burchette.

 

Those left to cherish his memory include his wife of 28 years Elizabeth Karen Cook-Growe. A daughter Hannah and son in law Zach Halsey of Daniels. A son Michael Eugene Growe Jr. of Pineville. His grandson Matthew Tyler Halsey. His brother Jeffrey Growe Sr. and nephew Jeffrey Growe Jr. of Pineville. His mother-in-law Patricia Cook of Beckley. His father-in-law and mother-in-law Jerry and Linda Cook of Oceana. Joyce Miller and family. Garland Eugene “Gene” Burchette and family. Jill Burchette and family. Miriam Burchette and family. As well as a host of other friends and family.

 

Services will be held Wednesday February 16th, 2022, at Evans- Calfee Funeral Service with Pastor Jerry Cook and Rev. Silas Mullins officiating. Visitation will be from 11am – 1pm with the funeral following at 1pm. Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.

 

He will be laid to rest at Palm Memorial Gardens in Matheny.

 

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in his honor to the American Heart Association, American Diabetes Association, and Cincinnati Children’s Hospital.
