Leola Atwell Brooks, age 89, was a lifelong resident of Pineville, WV. She passed away on January 31st, 2023 at Bowers Hospice House after a short illness. During that time, she was surrounded by her loving family giving her the love and comfort she had always given them.
She was born November 30th, 1933 in Pineville, WV. She was the late daughter of Lawrence and Augusta Farley Atwell.
In addition to her parents, she was also proceeded in death by her devoted husband of 43 years, James Woodrow Brooks - her beloved daughter Robin Lynn Cline - and four brothers: Odel, Verlin, Raymond, and Justin Atwell.
After graduating Pineville High School, she enlisted and served in the United States Air Force, which she worked as a secretary. She enjoyed gardening, taking care of her children and grandchildren as her life mission. She was a faithful member of the Pineville Church of God as a devoted Christian for more than 56 years and loved the Lord.
Leola is survived by her two sisters Goldie Allen of Brenton, WV and Sylvia Stafford of Baileysville, WV, her daughter of the home Kris Ann Brooks, Kim Bailey, the granddaughter that she raised and called her daughter Jennifer Lonker (Jason) of Hampstead, NC; grandchildren - Jacqueline Canada (Jason), Kara Clemins (Steven) and Bobby Smith all of Pineville, WV - Great grandchildren: Robbie, Robin, Kaileigh, Kyle, Colton, Caiden, and Ryker Lonker. Madison Clark, Mackenzie McGraw, Jazzlynn & Sadie Smyth. Khloe Steele and Harper Clemins. Great-great grandchildren: Silas and Liam England, Joselyn Lonker, and Hadley Lonker and a host of nieces, nephews, and loving friends.
The family would like to thank the wonderful staff at The Bowers Hospice House, CCU and CCSD staff at R.G.H for the loving care given to our loved one. Also, thank you to Kerri and Elizabeth Hickman and Hunter, David and Stephanie England for the added effort and care extended to our beloved Leola.
Services will be held at the Evans-Calfee Funeral Service in Pineville, WV on February 7th, 2023. Family will accept friends at 12:00 pm and services to start at 1:00. Leola will be laid to rest at Palm Memorial Gardens.
