Joseph "Joe" Buell Sparks Jr. passed away on Thursday February 17, 2022.
Born February 21, 1942 in Itmann, he was the son of the late Joseph Buell , and Truby Jackson Sparks.
Joe was a life long resident of Wyoming County, he served in the United States Army, was a Green beret, and part of the Army Special Forces during the Vietnam War.
He worked as a coal miner, a federal mine inspector, and served as a representative for the United Mine Workers of America. In 1996 he was elected to serve in the West Virginia House of Delegates. Joe was an avid WVU fan and enjoyed going to the football games. He also loved spending time at his camp on the Greenbrier River.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his loving wife of 53 years Judy Phillips Sparks.
Those left to cherish his memory, include his two children: Bobby Sparks and his wife Sherry, and Amy Short. Three grandchildren: Jenny Estep and her husband Daniel, Tyler Short, and Joseph Sparks. One great grandchild Jude Estep. One sister Patricia "Patty" Jamerson, and host of extended family and friends.
Family and friends will serve as pall bearers, and Military honors will be conducted by the Wyoming County Veterans Honor Guard.
