Joseph Hall Obituary

Joseph Michael Hall, 76, of Cyclone, went home to be with the Lord Saturday, June 6, 2020 at Logan Regional Medical Center, following a long illness.

Born May 22, 1944 in Christian, WV, he was the son of the late Ernest Hall and Marcell Vance Hall.

Michael was a 1963 graduate of Oceana High School. During his high school years, he attended the Wyoming County Vocational and Technical School in Pineville, where he and his team won several awards in auto mechanics. While in high school and after graduating, he worked at Minton Chevrolet in Logan.

He was inducted into the US Army in July 1965 and served on the DMZ in Korea for thirteen months. He served in Fort Lewis, WA for the remainder of his active duty service and was released from active duty in July of 1967. After completing his active duty service, he returned to his hometown and married his high school sweetheart, Sandra. For the next two years, he attended Camp Dawson for two weeks a year to fulfill his active reserve duties until 1971. He then worked at Jim Robbins Seatbelt Company in Mt. Clemons, MI before returning to his hometown to work as a general laborer in the coal mines. He attended Wyoming County Vocational and Technical School to earn his coal mining electrician certification. Michael worked at multiple coal mines for many years before becoming disabled in 2005.

Michael very much enjoyed gardening, raising many different varieties of flowers and sitting on the front porch talking to his neighbors and watching cars go by. His favorite time of the year was fall, when he looked forward to making apple butter with the family and going camping with his son in Cranberry.

Those left to cherish his memory include his wife of nearly fifty-three years, Sandra Bailey Hall; a daughter, Regina of Cyclone; a son, James of Hurricane; two brothers, Ernest “Chip” Hall and wife, Patty of Brooksville, FL and Thomas “Tom” Hall and wife, Madeline of Princeton; a host of nieces and nephews, including Marilyn Lusk and husband, Rodney of Beckley and Jean Ann Blankenship and husband, Mike of Montevale, VA; two Godchildren, Ashley Price and husband, Matt and Mackenzie O’Neil and two great-Godchildren, Carson and Emma Price, all of Oceana; a special friend, caregiver, and neighbor, Aron Keeney; the best neighbors a man could have; his beloved pet cat, Lucy; and a host of family and friends.
