Johnathan William Gene Massey “John Mass”, 34, of Oceana went to Heaven shouting Saturday, December 26, 2020.
Born July 14, 1986 in Beckley, he was the son of Harold Massey and Diana Toler Massey.
Johnathan was a beloved son, brother, uncle, nephew and friend. He loved big and hard. His family, friends, and community were his life.
He was a 2006 graduate of Westside High School, where he could still be heard at many events proudly cheering them on. He was known for his jokes and sense of humor that will be deeply missed. He livened up any event that he attended.
Johnathan was an enthusiastic WVU Mountaineers fan and devoted Dallas Cowboys fan, a team he gladly shared with his late grandfather.
He was a member of Delilah Methodist Church, where he enjoyed the youth group and many Christmas plays, and was blessed with the love and devotion of the precious members.
Johnathan worked as an auto body repairman for four years and worked for Rhino Eastern mines for two. He proudly served with the Oceana Volunteer Fire Department for six years.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Clarence (Cag) and Lula Belle Toler and Lee and Helen Massey.
In addition to his loving parents, those left to cherish his memory are his four sisters, Bridget Hatfield and husband, Ricky, Charity Huffman and husband, Adam, Tabetha Massey, all of Oceana, and Lauren Goins and husband, Danny of Princeton; his beloved nieces, “Johnny’s girls”, Hallie Hatfield, Whittney Hatfield, Kelsey Hatfield, and Chloe Goins; countless friends; his firefighter family; and the community.
