Jimmie Worth Blackmon, 78, a resident of Pineville, West Virginia for twenty-five years, went to his heavenly home early morning on May 17, 2025, after a brief illness. Jimmie was born on July 18, 1946, in Dillon, South Carolina and grew up there. Jimmie was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend. Jimmie graduated from Pembroke University in the late 1960’s and lived a successful life as a school teacher for five years, then after twenty years, he took disability retirement from his career as a Loss Control Representative for an insurance company. Jimmie did not give up in any situation, which was as an instrumental part of his life after he contracted polio at the age of three. He had determination to be as active as he physically could and was an avid hunter and fisherman. He made bows and gave them away to anyone who happened to visit him. In 1997, in New York State, Jimmie won the Traditional Long Bow Championship at the 8th Annual International Bowhunters Organization World Championship. While living in Jacksonville, Florida, Jimmie was an enthusiastic fisherman and fished in the Jetties outside Mayport, Florida when the huge redfish were biting. He had many more interests that kept him busy, such as geology and a rock collection that took up a lot of space. He played in chess tournaments, did woodworking, collected antique hand planes, and was an all-around jack of all trades. Since he was a teacher, he shared his knowledge in everything he did and many are wiser because of it.
Jimmie is survived by his wife of fifty-three years, Teresa Anne Blackmon. One son, Jamie Eric Blackmon, and one daughter, Nichole Marie Vest and her husband Damon Vest Jr. Two granddaughters that were the light of his life, Angela Vest and Amy Vest, and he was very proud of them and the ladies they have become. Two sisters, Mary Martha Davis and Regina Hamilton.
Jimmie is preceded in death by his parents, Albert Langley Blackmon and Ruth Davis Long, and one brother, Alton Blackmon.
A memorial service for Jimmie will be held at the chapel of Evans-Calfee Funeral Service in Pineville on Thursday, May 22, 2025, at 2:00pm. Friends may gather with the family one hour prior to the service.
