Jeffrey Lovejoy Obituary

Jeffrey Curtis “Beau” Lovejoy, 62, of Pineville, West Virginia went home on November 27, 2024 after a short illness.

Born on February 5, 1962 to Curtis Carson Lovejoy, Jr. and Wanda McGee Lovejoy, Jeff grew up in many places, including Morganton, North Carolina where he was born and Pineville, West Virginia where he made his home and raised his family. Throughout his life, Jeff made a living as a brick mason, gas well runner, skating ring guard, tree cutter, maintenance man, business owner, coal truck driver, small engine mechanic and Stihl guru, and hardware store staple. His children knew him to be the smartest, toughest, funniest, and most creative person imaginable, and they often called him an “everything man” because there was nothing he couldn’t build, weld, wire, carve, pipe, block, dig, plant, drive, cut, or fix.

True to his last name, Jeff soaked up every ounce of love and joy he could find, and he enjoyed fast cars, burnouts, loud bikes, a good dog, and helping people in any way he could. He watched westerns, planted gardens, ate pinto beans with cornbread and fried potatoes, cooked fried biscuits and donuts, made his mother’s beloved peanut butter and no-bake cookies, drove tractors and boats, rode four wheelers and motorcycles across as many mountains and hollers as he could, and always made the most of a snow day or summer night with his children, family, and friends. Like his father, he was a devoted Ford man, and he made sure to always have a Ford truck or car in his yard—whether it was for driving fast, fixing up, or teaching his kids to steer up a dirt road.

You could usually find Jeff laughing, smiling, and cracking jokes with his good buddies—the brothers he chose—outside of the gas station in Pineville or on his back porch, often with a Diet Mountain Dew or cup of coffee in his hand. An outdoorsman first by necessity and later by choice, Jeff was a skilled fisherman and deer hunter, and he took great pride in teaching his children how to appreciate spending time in the woods, how to respect the outdoors, and how to take care of yourself and your family through hard work, determination, and true grit.

Although he enjoyed these many pastimes, Jeff loved spending time with his five children (and all the bonus children, grandchildren, and dogs they brought with them) the most. He spent a lot of time in the driver’s seat traveling with his family up, down, and across West Virginia and the country to support them in theater competitions, soccer and Little League games, dance rehearsals, band concerts, midnight movie and book premiers, doctor’s appointments, graduations, vacations, family visits, hunting and fishing trips, or just to share a good meal. Jeff taught his children (and many others) how to shoot, cast a line, drive, explore, cook, build, restore, fix, and laugh. He was endearingly ornery and deeply funny, and one of his favorite jokes to deliver to his children was “I don’t know where you got your looks or brains from because I still got mine.” Jeff supported and loved his children in every way possible; he was a selfless, loving, gentle, proud, sweet, and kind father who would have gladly sacrificed everything he had just to see his children smile. He was always only a phone call or car ride away, and his children will forever cherish the many lessons, jokes, skills, stories, wit, creativity, and immense knowledge he so willingly shared with them every day of his too short but incredibly full life.

He was preceded in death by his father Carson Lovejoy, his sister Ivy Lynne Adkins, his niece Jessica Adkins, and several close friends he considered his chosen brothers.

Jeff will be missed dearly by his son Jeffrey Curtis Lovejoy, Jr. and his partner Mariah Plante and brother Matt of Pineville; his son Samuel Lovejoy and his wife Kayla of Pineville; his daughter Jordan Lovejoy and her husband Michael Gallimore of Durham, NC; his daughter Erica “Gracie” Lovejoy and her fiancé AJ Jones of Coal City; his daughter Bella Lovejoy-Cameron and her husband Josh of Pineville; his grandsons Zain Jones, Zander Jones, Finn Lovejoy, and Mason; his mother Wanda Lovejoy of Pineville; his sister Jennifer Sizemore and her husband Robert of Perkins, GA; his brother-in-law Eddie Adkins; his nephews Josh Adkins and Landon Sizemore; his nieces Jamie Roberts, Jaclyn Adkins, and Julie Stevens; and all the bonus children he cherished and considered his own, including Patrisha Hawks, Shay Hash, Cody Rocchi, Jerry “JJ” Whitt, Jr., Josh Toler, and Jason Smyth.

Additionally, Jeff was respected and loved by his community, and he will be missed deeply by a host of lifelong friends, motorcycle buddies, hunting and fishing pals, and fellow “Guard Shack” members who often held court outside of the Little General in Pineville. His children also thank their mother, Rebecca, for praying with them and their father before he went home.

In keeping with his wishes, Jeff will be cremated.
