Helen Madge Schuman Pizzino, 96, entered her home of eternal rest on May 1, 2024,
following a short illness.
She was born February 2, 1928, to parents Hugo and Evelyn Stewart Schuman in
Ravencliff, WV and lived her entire life in the Ravencliff-Glen Fork area
Helen was a graduate of Glen Roger's High School where she excelled in all areas as an
honor student. After graduation she worked several years in retail before assuming the
position of Post Mistress with the U.S. Postal Service in Glen Fork, until retirement.
Helen’s sweet and caring personality endeared her to all who knew her, resulting in many
lifelong friendships. Among her many interests, cooking and baking were among the top of
her list. Anyone who was ever a guest in her home could attest to her cooking skills. She
was known for beautiful candies and cakes which she often presented to family and
friends. In her younger years she enjoyed reading and doing crossword puzzles and
competing with her brother Sonny working the daily crossword puzzle.
Spending time with her family was the happiest time of her life. Her two grandchildren
were her world when they were small. She was married to Jack Pizzino for 66 years until his
death in 2020. She was also preceded in death by her parents, sisters Kitty Gentry,
Margaret Herron and Jenny Lohnes, brothers Buddy, Sonny, and Ted Schuman.
Helen is survived by her daughter Elizabeth (Libby) Pizzino Morgan, granddaughter Karly
Morgan-Smith, grandson Casey Morgan (Megan), great grandchildren Cosby, Clover, and
Orion Morgan-Smith and Sawyer and Saydee Morgan, also a sister Barbara Stacy of
Atlanta, GA and several nieces and nephews.
Helen was a member of Glen Fork Baptist Temple for many years. At her request, a
graveside rights service will take place on Wednesday, May 8 at 11:00 at Sunset Memorial
Cemetery in Beckley with Gene Reid officiating.
