Harry Green Cooke Jr, 97, passed away Saturday, October 4, 2025, at Bowers Hospice House in Beckley, WV.
Born in Jesse, WV, on July 22, 1928, he was one of seven children born to the late Harry Green Cooke Sr and Blanche Stewart Cooke.
After graduating from high school, Harry earned his Engineering degree from West Virginia University. He was a proud veteran of the US Army and a longtime member of Pineville United Methodist Church.
A card-carrying member of the National Rifle Association, he was an avid hunter. His passion for hunting led him on many great adventures across North America. When he wasn’t enjoying the outdoors that he loved so dearly, he could often be found cheering on his favorite team, the Mountaineers.
In addition to his parents, Harry was preceded in death by two sisters and two brothers.
He will be dearly missed by his loving wife of sixty-nine years, Charlene Shields Cooke; his two children, Leah Mendez and her husband John and Phillip Craig Cooke and his wife Debra; six grandchildren, John Ryan Mendez, Erin Rae Rimbach, Adam Emilio Mendez, Phillip Zachary Cooke, Ashley Taylor Breese and Victoria Anne Armstrong; seven great-grandchildren; a sister, Kathleen Cook; a brother, Ronald Cooke; his caregivers, Judy Robinson and Rada McKinney; and a host of extended family and friends.
