Gloria Spence

Gloria April Dawn Spence (Smith) was born to Marie and Oley Smith on April 5th, 1957 and left us to rejoin them on November 4th, 2022. Although she left us unexpectedly, we can be sure her mother was ready to greet her with open arms, thus completing the family circle. Gloria was the youngest of twelve children whom all preceded her in being by her mothers side.

She leaves behind an adoring son, Jason Spence, revering nieces in Samantha Smith, Katie Grimmette and Cassie Kincaid, a loving partner in Stephen Johnson, and so many more that her son just couldn’t add them all.

Gloria was a nurse for over 43 years, something her mother always wanted her to do, and she loved what she did. She enjoyed arts and crafts, making some of the most beautiful holiday wreaths. Most of all, she loved being a mother to her son, he has always been her pride and joy. Nothing was more important than family. Whether it was being a mother to her son or “maw-maw” to her nieces and nephews, no matter what role needed filled, she would happily try.

She loved her family and wished more than anything that she could spoil them in at least some small way. She loved to be around her family for reunions, holidays, or just random get-togethers and it would make her so happy to see her family continue to be close in whatever way they can.

For all of those she leaves behind, those of us in the larger circle, know that she cares for us, worries for us, wants what’s best for us, and loves every single one of us.
