Everett Eugene “Squeak” Watts, 73, of Chapin, SC, formerly of Kopperston, passed away Wednesday, January 6, 2021 in Columbia, SC.
Born January 20, 1947 in Bartley, WV, he was the son of the late Everett Watts and Carrie Lester Watts.
Everett was a proud veteran of the US Army and a Vietnam Veteran, where he earned a Purple Heart.
Everett lived in Kopperston for over twenty-four years. He enjoyed coaching t-ball and volunteered to help maintain the ball fields. He was always very involved with the community and children. He was known to his neighbors as a person with a humble heart.
He spent fifteen years working for Eastern Coal and was a member of the mine rescue team. After leaving Eastern, he and his wife moved to live on Lake Murray in Chapin, SC. where he loved to go fishing, water ski and ride jet skis.
He enjoyed taking care of his home and took great pride in the work he did. His favorite pastime was working along side his grandson on his 1976 Corvette Stingray, which they lovingly referred to as their baby.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by two sisters, Marie and Dorothy and two brothers, Robert and Frank.
Everett is survived by his loving wife of forty-four years, Drema Edwards Watts, his son, Everett E. “Gene” Watts II and grandson, Benjamin Aldan Watts, both of whom were his pride and joy. He is also survived by his sister, Roberta Hurman and a host of nieces and nephews.
