David (Dave) Henry Hammond 91, of Pineville went to be with his Lord, on February 18, 2020.
Born January 31, 1929 in Franklin Kentucky he was the son of the late Robert Douglas and Edna Davis Hammond.
Dave was a former Coalfield League Baseball player, he was veteran of the United States Army serving during the Korean War. He was an active member of Rock Castle Baptist Church in Pineville, for over 45 years. He was an active member of the First Church of the Nazarene in Welch for 15 years. Dave was also an active Gideon for over 20 years. Gideon's International is an association of christian business and professional men banded together in 200 countries for fellowship and service. The purpose of the Association is to promote the gospel to all people to the end that they may come to the Lord Jesus as the personal Savior. Dave was also the owner and operator of Hammond Specialty Company (a wholesale candy company) for 47 years. The one thing that Dave would leave us with, is for all of us to honor the passion that he had for his Lord and Savior, by continuing his ministry to spread the Gospel of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his two brothers Sam Hammond, and Robert Hammond, one sister June Justice, and a special grandson Jeffery Michael Boggs.
Those left to cherish his memory include his three daughters Deborah Swayne of Porter Texas, Mary Boggs and her husband Mike of Charlotte North Carolina, and Donna Hammond of Conroe Texas, 1 brother Jim Hammond of Richlands Va, his sister Shirley Scott of Princeton, 3 grandsons, and 6 great grandchildren and 4 great great grandchildren, his two special friends Gary and Mary Ford.
In lieu of flowers the family is asking the donations be made in Dave's memory to the Bowers Hospice House in Beckley.
Services will be Thursday February 20, 2020 at 11am in the chapel of Evans-Calfee Funeral Service with his Pastor Rev. Silas Mullins Jr. officiating.
Following the service he will be laid to rest in the Grandview Memory Gardens in Bluefield Va.
Family will greet friends from 10am until service time Thursday at the funeral home.
