Curtis Carson Lovejoy, Jr., 80, of Morganton, NC passed away on Tuesday, October 5, 2021 in his home of Pineville, WV.
Born on March 9, 1941 to Curtis Lovejoy, Sr. and Flossie Annis, Carson grew up in Lincoln County, West Virginia. Throughout his life, Carson made a living as a brick mason, and his artistic style can still be seen in homes, buildings, and even brick flowerpots all around the country, especially in southern WV. Although proud of his work, Carson was most proud of the family he built over his lifetime with his wife of 62 years, Wanda. His biggest grins were often seen when surrounded by his wife, children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchild. A man of few words but immense wisdom, Carson enjoyed sharing his interests, stories, humor, and traditional knowledge with his family. Among many wise sayings, he taught his children to “Do as I say, not as I do” and his grandchildren to thank him for correcting their orneriness: “Thank you, Papaw, I needed that.” He enjoyed fishing, hunting, reading and watching westerns, gardening, playing poker, drinking a beer or some moonshine, smoking a good cigarette, and driving a little too fast. Carson was a hard worker who always took care of his loved ones and who knew how to survive his time on this earth with grit and a grin. He has—very thankfully—passed that spirit onto his family.
He was preceded in death by his parents Curtis and Flossie, his sister Joyce, his granddaughter Jessica, and his great-granddaughter Brooklyn.
Carson will be missed dearly by his wife and lifelong love Wanda McGee Lovejoy of Pineville; his daughter Lynne Adkins and her husband Eddie of Key Rock; his son Jeffrey Lovejoy of Pineville; his daughter Jennifer Sizemore and her husband Robert of Perkins, GA; his sisters Ivalee, Virginia, Daphne (Tommy), and Reggi of Morganton, NC; his grandchildren Jamie (Tracy), Josh, Jaclyn, Julie (Luke), Curtis, Samuel (Kayla), Jordan (Michael), Gracie, Bella, and Landon; his great-grandchildren Katlyn (Matthew), Tracy, Matthew (Lauren), Chase, Rylan, Wade, Willow, Finn, Zain, Keegan, Kaylee, and Kinsley; and his great-great-grandson Tucker.
In keeping with his wishes, Carson’s family will surround him to celebrate his life and honor his spirit at a private memorial service.
Evans-Calfee Funeral Service of Pineville is serving the Lovejoy Family.
