Charles “Charlie” Thomas Akers Sr, 73, passed away Saturday, September 18, 2021 at Raleigh General Hospital in Beckley.
Charlie was born April 8, 1948 in Elbert, WV to the late Jack C. Akers and Cordie V. Presley Akers.
He was a retired coal miner and a member of UMWA. He was also a veteran, having served his country in the US Navy.
Charlie was a longtime member of the Oceana Church of God.
He was a devoted father, grandfather and friend. He enjoyed talking to his friends, telling tall tales and especially enjoyed being with his family. He was an avid Dale Sr. fan and never missed a race.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his first wife, Connie Sue Gilley Akers and his second wife, Shelia Hudgins Akers; a daughter, Tina Akers Cook; and a brother, Jack C. Akers.
Charlie will be greatly missed by his three children, Charles “Chuck” Akers and wife, Ronya, Morgan Akers and McKinlea Akers; five grandchildren, Megan Crutchfield and husband, Dustin, Mollee Akers, Addison Akers, Noah Akers and Brianna Cook; 3 great grandchildren, sister Sandra Compton, numerous extended family members and countless friends.
