Carol Dean Garrett, 75, of Pineville, WV, on Wednesday, June 21st, while surrounded by her loving and devoted family, passed away peacefully at her home after a short but courageous battle with cancer. She leaves behind a legacy of love, faith, and compassion and will be missed dearly by her family, friends, and community. Born January 29th, 1948, in Pineville, West Virginia, to the late John and Mary Ann Anderson, Carol's life was marked by her unwavering devotion to her family, her community, and her faith. She was a woman of great strength, wisdom, and resilience, whose spirit touched the lives of all who knew her. Carol's commitment to her faith in Christ was the cornerstone of her life. She was an active member of the Rockcastle Baptist Church in Pineville, WV, for over 50 years where she served as Treasurer and dedicated herself to spreading the message of love and hope. Her unwavering belief in the power of prayer and her steadfast trust in the Lord inspired those around her and brought comfort to many during times of trials. Carol was also a long-time public servant serving as Magistrate Court Clerk in Wyoming County for over 20 years. She was heavily involved in and often donated proudly to numerous charitable and non-profit organizations including the International Rett Syndrome Foundation, WVMC Tote Bag Ministry, Alzheimer’s Research Foundation, Jonathan Powell Hope Foundation, and ASPCA. Carol was also a long-time devoted fan of community athletic clubs and teams including Wyoming County East High School Boys Basketball and Baseball, Pineville Middle School Volleyball, Girls Basketball, Softball, and avid fan and supporter of Concord University Baseball. As a mother, Carol cherished her children and embraced them with boundless love. Her sons, John and Kevin Garrett, and her daughter, Mary Cathryn Garrett-Cook, were the lights of her life. She instilled in them the values of compassion, integrity, and resilience, shaping them into the remarkable individuals they are today. Beyond her role as a mother, Carol embraced the gift of friendship and community. She had a genuine interest in others and her ability to listen without judgment made her a beloved confidante and advisor to many. Carol is proceeded in death by her late husband, Freddie Garrett and granddaughter Baylee Garrett. Carol's memory will be forever cherished by her loving family, those that survive her, including her children, John and Jamette Garrett of Kinston, NC, Kevin and Robin Garrett of Princeton, WV, and Mary Cathryn Garrett-Cook, of Pineville, WV, sisters Letha White, Barbara Gilmore, and Melissa Powell, grandchildren Bo Garrett of Princeton, WV, Taylor Garrett-Rife of Princeton, WV, Ian Garrett of Kinston, NC, Garrett Mitchell of Pineville, WV, Caroline Cook of Pineville, WV, and great-grandchildren Jaxon Garrett, Conor Garrett, and Harper Rife. They will carry on her legacy of love and continue to embody the values she held dear. While we mourn the loss of Carol's physical presence, we take solace in the knowledge that she has found eternal peace in the arms of her Heavenly Father. Her unwavering faith assures us that she is now reunited with loved ones who have gone before her, basking in the glory of God's eternal love. In honoring Carol's memory, let us remember her as a woman who embraced life's joys and sorrows with grace, a woman whose love and compassion knew no bounds. May her spirit of kindness and devotion serve as an inspiration to us all and may her soul rest in everlasting peace. Funeral arrangements will be held at Rockcastle Baptist Church on Monday, June 26, 2023. Family and friends are invited to join in celebrating Carol's life and offering their final farewells at 11:00 a.m. May God grant comfort and solace to all who mourn Carol's passing, and may her memory be a blessing to us all.
