Arlis Vale Cook, 95, of Pineville WV went to be the with Lord with his family by his side at Bowers Hospice House on November 3, 2023. He was born January 9, 1928, in Wyoming County. He was the son of the late Garland Otto and Flora Jane Pendry Cook.
Arlis was a member of the Church of God in Jesus Name in Mullensville, WV. He served many years as a Sunday School Teacher and Interim Pastor. He was also an Ordained Minister. His passion was serving the Lord and ministering to people in need.
Arlis began his coal mining career at an early age at Island Creek Coal Co and Consol Coal Co from which he retired after 38 years. Arlis was an avid fisherman and loved to hunt. He made many trips to the mountains of Cody, Wyoming to hunt and fish with his family and friends. He also made a hunting trip to Canada where he shot a Caribou.
In addition to his parents, Arlis was preceeded in death by his wife Ethel Irene Stanley Cook, son Arlis Dewayne Cook and his wife Suzanne (Lyons) Cook, daughter-in-law Debbie (Brooks) Cook, and graddaughter Tracy (Cook) Wilson. Survivors include his children James (Roberta) Cook of Augusta Ga., Renva (Kermit) Toler of Beckley, WV, and Nelson (Kathy) Cook of Eccles WV (with who he resisded for the past two years).
Arlis has seven living grandchildren: Corinna Thielke, Matt Stover, Heather Lucas, Andria Hamilton, Melissa Wright, James Thornton Cook and Amanda Marsh. Arlis has twenty-five great-grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren. Also left to celebrate Arlis’ memrory are a special nephew Cylde Patrick, special hunting buddy Scott Moore, special friends Sue and Will Peterson, along with a host loving family and friends.
Pallbearers will be members of Arlis’ family. James Thornton Cook, Craig Lucas, Will Miller, Randall Stover, Kyle Hamilton, Zac Wilson and honarary pall bearers Larry Blankenship and Hayden Hamiltion.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that remembrances be made in the form of contributions to the Bowers Hospice House in Beckley, WV.
