Alpha Cook Obituary

Shrouded tightly in God’s arms to calm her fears he lifted up and gently guided our mother through the gates of heaven to reunite her with her loving family that have been waiting for her arrival with their arms wide open. Alpha Eldine Ellison Cook peacefully, silently, without any pain or suffering, gently passed away on December 8, 2024, after a short illness, surrounded by her loving family that she had dedicated her whole life to.

She was born on February 28, 1930 to her loving parents Everett Hale and Mary Cook Ellison - first grandchild on both sides of her family they chose the name of Alpha - most fitting for a woman that became number one in many many lives that she touched throughout her 94 years on the face of this earth.

In addition to her parents she is preceded in death by one daughter, Sherri Fawn Cook, brothers Alfred, Frank and Gene Ellison, a sister Mary Lou Ellison Williamson and son-in-law Ronald “Chief” Mayhew.   She is survived by one son Joseph Keith Cook and his wife Frances of Spotsylvania, Va.; five daughters, Robin Lamb of Kingsport, TN; Shelia Long of Princeton, WV; Gwenn Mayhew of Rock View, WV; Tamela Repass and her husband Bill of Princeton, WV and Myra O’Neal of Rock View, WV. In addition, she was the proud grandmother and great-grandmother of eleven grandchildren, six step-grandchildren, and twelve great grandchildren and nine step-great grandchildren. She is also survived by her loving siblings Gladys Browning of Sterling Heights, MI; Geraldine Jackson of Pineville, WV; Helen Parsons and her husband Doug of Simpsonville, SC and a brother Bill Ellison and his wife Maribea of Sissonville, WV and very many nieces and nephews who loved her very much. She will be greatly missed by her special nephew Frankie Ellison who has been a weekly visitor over the past few years and T.J. Cook who has always been and will always be a huge part of our family.

Alpha E. Cook is well known for her culinary talents throughout the county. Her years of employment were spent cooking at the Castle Rock Restaurant, Mountain Motel and Restaurant, and the Cow Shed Motel and Restaurant. She loved every minute of it and pleasing her customers’ taste buds was the highlight of her day.  Although she is mostly noted as a fantastic cook, she was blessed with many other talents that she never gave up. She was an accomplished master seamstress that could look at a photo of an outfit and miraculously produce it overnight. Her talents didn’t end there; she loved crocheting, embroidering, quilting, baking and her candy making skills were unbelievable.  The biggest attribute to this world that she possessed was the ability to see good and kindness in everyone, the ability to recognize and understand the struggles that each and everyone of us face throughout the day, and always had the ability to share heartfelt wisdom that came from years of believing that tomorrow will be a better day and things will begin to turn around if you believe in yourself.  We have lost a wonderful, compassionate, loving woman that dedicated her whole life to her children making sure their needs were met, making sure they participated in any activity that they were interested and supporting them all the way. Heaven has truly received an Angel.

The family wants to express their gratitude and thanks to Hospice of Southern West Virginia for the excellent care that they have provided to our family and especially our mother during this difficult time. In lieu of flowers, donations to Hospice of Southern West Virginia would be greatly appreciated.
