Alex Deskins Jr, 76, passed away unexpectedly at his home, Sunday, October 6, 2024.
Born September 4, 1948, in Kopperston, WV, he was the son of the late Alex Deskins, Sr. and Mercedes Ratliff Deskins.
After graduating from Pineville High School in 1966, Alex enlisted in the US Navy, where he served aboard the USS Hornet during the Vietnam Conflict.
Alex was a dedicated employee of US Steel for over thirty years and retired as a boss at #50 Pinnacle Mine. He loved his crew and thought of them as family.
A longtime attendant of Ravencliff Church of God, he devoted time daily to the studying of his Bible. When he wasn’t “doing his paperwork,” he enjoyed hunting, fishing, and playing golf.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, David Deskins and Fred Allen Deskins, his mother and father in-law, James F Shirley and Margie F Shirley, and his childhood best friend, Ronnie Stiltner.
Those left to cherish his memory are his loving wife of fifty-seven years, Karen Deskins; his children, Brian James Deskins and wife Jennifer and Kelly Fay Coleman and husband Michael; his grandchildren, Tyler A Deskins, Olivia G Vanover and husband Jordan, and Kyla Cheyenne Workman and husband Derrick; three great-grandchildren; siblings, Eddie R Deskins, Earl Lee Deskins and wife Karen, Olive Davis and husband Jerry, Jane Renwick and Anna G Gregorich and husband Bob; and his best friend, Phillip “PJ” Simmons.
Military honors will be performed by the Wyoming County Honor Guard.
