Ruth Conley Obituary

Okeechobee, FL – Ruth Hatfield Conley entered into eternal rest October 14, 2018.  Ruth was born on March 15, 1925 in Simon, West Virginia.  She was the daughter of the late Otis and Frances Lawrence Hatfield.

Ruth was a housewife.  Affectionately called “Gran” by many of her loved ones, she was an excellent cook and was known for making delicious biscuits and gravy, cornbread, and peanut butter fudge. She loved having friends and family visit and getting together with her extended family for reunions.  Ruth enjoyed sewing and throughout her life made beautiful clothing for many family members.  She also enjoyed crocheting and her afghans are enjoyed and treasured by many members of her family.  She was a very talented and hardworking person.  Her holiday ceramics and nativities are heirlooms to her family.  She was always at Ruble’s side helping with the many remodeling activities they took on throughout the years.  The younger generation always enjoyed her stories of her adventures with Ruble and his sisters on the farm when they were first married and of their travels later in life.  She was the matriarch of the family and will be greatly missed.

Ruth and Ruble married young and had two children.  They had a home and lived many years in Oceana, West Virginia.  Throughout the years they traveled extensively with Ruble’s job and had great adventures exploring and making lifelong friends in the areas they temporarily lived.  They settled in Fort Lauderdale, Florida in the early 1980s, later moving to their home on Lake Okeechobee in Lakeport, Florida.  They spent 68 wonderful years together.

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Ruble Conley; loving son, Larry Conley; brothers, Alex Hatfield, Clarence Hatfield, Con Hatfield, Don Hatfield, and Homer Hatfield; sisters, Mavis Hatfield, Ruby Hall, and Truby Hatfield; half-brother Elliot Hatfield; and half-sisters, Corby Hatfield, Grace Hatfield, Macie Hatfield, Madge Hatfield, and Meda Hatfield.

She leaves to cherish her memory, her daughter, Dr. Patsy Conley, of Okeechobee, Florida; daughter-in-law, Sally Conley, of Fort Lauderdale, Florida; grandsons, Joseph Abelleira and his daughter, Katie, of Ocala, Florida, Heath Conley (Becky)  and his   children, Madison and Grayson, of Benton, Illinois, and Ryan Conley of Tampa, Florida; brothers, George Hatfield (Judy), of Beckley, West Virginia, French Hatfield, of Coal City, West Virginia, and Hershel Hatfield, of Texarkana, Texas; nieces, Hilda Morgan, of Clear Fork, West Virginia, and Renee Taylor, of Lugoff, South Carolina; and many other nieces, nephews, and friends that will miss her dearly.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Ruth’s name to Hospice of Okeechobee, PO Box 1548, Okeechobee, FL 34973.
