Emma McCoy Obituary

Miss Emma Grace McCoy joined Jesus on Friday, November 2nd 2018 after a nearly yearlong, courageous battle. Emma was born in Beckley, WV on April 21, 2003 to her beloved mother Tonya McCoy. Emma was a sophomore and loyal Renegade at Westside High School where she was a cheerleader and student council member. Emma resided at Clearfork, WV with her uncle and aunt Bruce and Angel McCoy and her siblings Lilly and Dylan McCoy.

Emma was an excellent student and friend who loved living life to the fullest. She cheered for many years and also played softball. She so loved her coaches who built into her and encouraged her, and her teammates who were like family. Homecoming was the highlight of her freshman year. Emma enjoyed napping and eating her sweets, but she loved swimming and going to bonfires with her friends. She loved Tropical Snos and shopping. She loved to go on vacation and to concerts. She loved holidays with her family and her Mamaw’s cooking.

Emma’s life was turned upside down in the past year as she battled her sudden illness. To be so young, she faced the adversity with such strength, grace and humility. Her resilience inspired the community who rallied behind her with so much love and support. Despite each new report or treatment, she kept her beautiful smile and kept pushing forward. Emma had committed her life to the Lord when she was 14 and was baptized on September 2nd, 2018 at Christ Community Church where she had attended for the past 5 years.

Emma was preceded in death by her maternal Great-Grandparents Doc and Ethel McCoy and Naomi Pelphrey and Bruce Willard. Emma’s memory will forever be cherished by her loving mother Tonya McCoy of Oceana who never gave up fighting for her; uncle Bruce and aunt Angel McCoy and siblings Lilly and Dylan McCoy of Clearfork; grandparents Donald and Sue McCoy of Elk Lick; great-grandfather Earl Pelphrey of Kopperston; aunt Patricia Cook and husband Billy of Craney; aunt Erica Blankenship and husband Scott of Elk Lick; cousins Rio and Gabe Cook, and Jacob, Hannah, Abby and Lauren Blankenship; Nana Shelia Conn of Cyclone; and special friends Kristy Martin, Addi Parsons and Torin Morgan and their families. Emma leaves behind a host of extended family and friends who have supported her and been inspired to live fuller lives and love stronger because of her sweet, precious life.

The family would like to express their gratitude to Bower’s Hospice House in Beckley, and Cincinnati Children’s Hospital, especially her therapists Michelle, Kris, Allie and Brittany who shared Emma’s love of Post Malone and treated her as so much more than a patient.

Rio Cook, Gabe Cook, Jacob Blankenship, Ethan Blackburn, Dylan Chapman, Tanner Workman, Connor Gibson, Colton Moore and Tommy Milam will serve as pallbearers.
