Sarah “Arleene” Drake, 87, passed away Monday, February 25, 2019, surrounded by her loving family.
Born February 18, 1932 in Oceana, WV, she was a daughter of the late George Wayne Cook Sr. and Letah Chambers Cook.
A lifelong resident of Wyoming County, Arleene was a 1950 graduate of Oceana High School and was very active in her community. She was a member of the John Cooke Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution and was a cook for the Rotary Club.
As a lifetime member of Oceana United Methodist Church, and active member of the United Methodist Women, she also taught Sunday school and served as a youth group leader for many years.
Arleene enjoyed cooking, sewing and collecting angels.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, William Drake Sr; a son, William “Bill” Drake Jr; a brother, George Wayne Cook Jr; and sisters, Juna Harper and Virginia Belle Smith.
Those left to cherish her memory are her son, James Arvin Drake and wife, Natalie of Oceana; daughter-in-law, Teresa Drake of Oceana; granddaughter, Amanda Joyce and husband, Thomas of Hurricane; great-grandson, Tyler Joyce; nephew, John Eric Smith and his companion, Shonda Zastawniak; and niece, Becky Ceperly and husband, Andy of Charleston.
