Larry Stafford Obituary

On February 13th, 2024, Larry Ray Stafford of Pineville, WV (formerly of Baileysville, WV) moved from the Bowers Hospice House in Beckley to his eternal heavenly home to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.  Having made a confession of faith, Larry was at peace and ready to go.

Born November 19, 1952, he was the son of Harry (Buster) Stafford and Nellie Mae (Prater) Stafford. Larry was preceded in death by both his parents, and an only child, Alec Ray.  Survivors include his only sister: Darlene Stafford Hurley; three brothers:  Wendell Scott Stafford and wife Jocelyn, of Beckley, WV; Eddie Stafford and wife Sandy, of Daniels,WV; and James (JayBird) Stafford of Pineville, WV; two nieces: Heather (Stafford) Forbes and Marisa (Stafford) Lanum, both of VA Beach, and one nephew, Joshua Clay and wife Gabby, of Pineville, WV, and numerous cousins.   Also surviving Larry are very special friends, Jake and Misty Cook; “special granddaughter” Brianna Coleman; and his little 7-yr-old buddy, Axl Blankenship.  Also surviving Larry was his life-long friend, Betty Jackson.

After the death of his son, Alec, Larry was never the same.  Alec died tragically in an accident at his home while working on his vehicle at the age of 33.   Today, every tear has been wiped away.  What a wonderful reunion in heaven!

Larry worked for Betty Jackson at Jackson Surveying and Construction Company for his entire working career of more than 40 years.  Betty was not only Larry's employer but was also his neighbor who became his dearest and closest friend, whom he respected and appreciated beyond words.

Larry was a 1972 graduate of Baileysville High School and a life-long resident of Wyoming County. He was a surveyor by profession (including underground mining surveying) and a construction worker his entire life.

Larry enjoyed spending time with his family.  He loved his siblings with all his heart and had a very special bond with his youngest two:  Darlene and JayBird (who would whole-heartedly agree).  His favorite one to spend time with was his son, Alec, who he loved more than anyone or anything else. Larry thoroughly enjoyed being outdoors, especially trout fishing and squirrel hunting.  Just picking up aluminum cans by the roadside was an enjoyable hobby to him.  Watching sports was another pass-time Larry enjoyed.

Larry Ray Stafford was one of the kindest, humblest, and most generous people this world has ever known.   He will be sadly missed by his family and friends.
