Dorothy Joann "Dottie" Bishop Horn left this earth peacefully on Sunday, February 18, 2024, in Edmond, WV, where she resided with her son for 9 years. Dottie fought a courageous battle against a debilitating illness of many years. She was born January 15, 1936, in McDowell Co WV to Franklin Dot and Euna Farley Bishop and was the seventh of ten children born to that loving family.
Dottie graduated from Iaeger High School in 1953, along with her future husband, Huey Horn, whom she married in 1962. They celebrated fifty-six years together before Huey died in 2018. Dottie joined her older sister, Wilma, as a telephone operator at Welch WV upon graduation from high school and worked there until she married Huey in 1962. They were the proud parents of three children who gifted them with five grandchildren and three great grandchildren and many years of joy and happiness. She and Huey were totally involved in the lives of their children and supported them wholeheartedly in all their activities.
Dottie spent more than 20 years serving with the Girl Scouts of America. She lived the Girl Scout slogan of “Do a good turn daily”. She was an avid reader and loved her trips to her local library. She was an excellent cook and a beloved in-law and a friend to many.
Preceding her in death, in addition to her parents and her husband, were three brothers, Marion, Vestal "Beck", Franklin D. Jr, five sisters: Juanita Umbarger, Emma Lou Butler, Dolly Hume Wilma Pascone, and Sue Howell
